The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), the world’s largest international pre-college science competition, provides an annual forum for more than 1,500 high school students from 65 countries, regions, and territories to showcase their independent research as they compete for over $4 million annually. The Intel ISEF is the premier global science competition for students in grades 9–12.
The Intel ISEF is the premiere science competition in the world exclusively for students in grades 9–12. It has grown from the National Science Fair, which was created by Society for Science & the Public (then known as Science Service) in 1950. In 1958, the fair became international for the first time when Japan, Canada, and Germany joined the competition.

2011 winners
Montreal Regional Science & Technology Fair projects do well at the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair in Los Angeles!
Three projects from the MRSTF travelled to Los Angeles, California to compete in the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair. This prestigious event attracted over 1500 of the finest scientific minds from 65 countries around the world. This cream of the crop of high school science minds were selected from more than 7 million students who submitted science fair projects. The competition took place during the week of May 9 – 13.
Apart from merely having had the honour of participating at this competition, two of the projects also won the following merit awards:
Environmental Science Category
➢ Second Place* – $1 500 cash prize
Chloé Anassis The Study
* In addition to the cash prize above, finishing in second place results in an asteroid being named in Chloé’s honour. This priviledge is an initiative of the MIT Lincoln Laboratory (Ceres Connection Program.
Medical & Health Sciences Category
➢ Fourth Place – $500 cash prize
Meagan-Helen Henderson Miss Edgar’s & Miss Cramp’s School
Katherine Haentjens & Marianne Thériault from Villa Maria also represented the MRSTF at the Intel ISEF competition.
Participation of these students is made possible by the Educational Alliance for Science & Technology’s (EAST) affiliation with the Intel ISEF competition. EAST is also responsible for the RoboCup Jr. and CRC Robotics competition.

The science review committee (SRC)is composed of at least three professors from a University or CEGEP in Montreal. Their main responsibility is to certify eligible projects. Participants must abide by the deadlines set by the SRC for the submission of required forms and signatures.
